Parenting and Cellphones!

At what age would it be appropriate to give my boys their own cellphones? This is a question that I have been thinking about a lot lately.

How about you, when would you give your child a cellphone and why?

Well, my boys are 10 years old (Twins), their classmates and peers  have cellphone, now they are telling me that it’s time.

You see, I’m very scared, I would love for them to get phone and use them wisely but what if they don’t.

These days, people borrow cellphone and use them for illegal and dangerous things, I do not want them to be caught up in that mess.

I know, I know  I cant hold them back for ever, they are growing up right, and I have to teach them to be responsible.

So here is what I came up with.

  1. The cheapest cellphone possible. ( Well maybe not the cheapest, but one that is not too expensive.)- First phone, they are not yet attached, so they will definitely loose it. Also, not as responsible, it’s possible they’ll break it. (Oh yes they break it, maybe after the first two months.)
  2. Monitor internet Use and sites.- I would like to get an alert for every website and app they visit and download, also have the opportunity to decline or allow use.
  3. Every Night at 8:30 PM phones must be locked off and place on my night stand.
  4. Know their friends that they are texting and calling.

If there are any additional concerns I will let you all know as I continue to think diligently whether to give or not to give…
