Repeat grade 3

One of my boys is struggling with school right now, his teacher suggests that he repeats the third grade. Anyone been through a situation like this what is your opinion or what did you do?

Yes but it’s been many years. Mine repeated first grade. Fast forward to adulthood. He’s got a good job with a bank as a quality control analyst. Repeating first grade in hindsight was a minor bump in the road.

  2. I’ve never had this come up with my sons, but if it helps him in the long run, I suppose it’s ok. Id be concerned about his feelings on the matter. His friends moving on, the stigma, etc. Have you asked him his thoughts? By the time he’s an adult, it probably won’t make much difference, but as a 8 or 9 year old, it may bother him.

Before we homeschooled, my daughter repeated first grade, only because there wasn’t a space available to her for second grade at the international school she went to. Because it was a new school, no one knew she was a grade “behind” and she made friends right off the bat. She did have an American teacher who taught her second grade anyway. So, my comment will be of no help to you, haha. I would see if you could work with him at home throughout summer, use a tutoring service if necessary, so he can stay in the same grade as his twin. Best of luck to you!
